10 Music Photographers You Should Know

Oh, the art of music photography. It is one thing to be at a show, and another to document these precious moments as a music photographer. This niche in photography is no easy feat, but these talented individuals have committed themselves to this exciting craft. Their photos will make you feel like you are back in the mosh pit. If you’re a music fan like me or simply enjoy the beauty of music photography, here’s a list of music photographers you should know.

Niña Sandejas

Location: Manila, Philippines

Website: www.rosarioko.com

Niña is one of the first music photographers in the Philippines to get critical acclaim for her work. A fashion graduate, she ventured into music photography when she attended a gig with her friend, singer Kitchie Nadal. She’s known for capturing iconic moments in Philippine music history and travels around Asia to shoot international festivals.

Stephen Lavoie

Location: Manila, Philippines

Website: www.irocktography.com

Stephen really immerses himself in the concert scene. He’s open about sharing music photography tips and engaging in the community around him. He’s so dedicated to his craft that he researches and studies the artists he’s going to shoot. The pay-off: he can tell when the musician is going to do their signature moves such as jumping or back-flipping and he’s ready to capture the moment!

Maysa Askar

To me, she’s the Tumblr queen of music photography. She’s been on tour with some of my favourite bands, and her dedication to her craft is inspiring. Her work is featured in one of my favourite music magazines, Alternative Press.

Trixie Beredo

Location: LA, California

Website: www.Facebook.com/FindingTrixie

Trixie is a creative lady with an eye for capturing moments through a different perspective. Whereas most of the concert photos I see flooding social media focus on capturing just the musicians, Trixie also photographs the often-overlooked areas in the stage.

Matty Vogel

Location: Minneapolis/Phoenix

Website: www.mattyvogel.com

This guy has some of the most amazing music photos I’ve seen. He’s shot for Hoodie Allen, Alternative Press, and Warner Music Group. It’s no wonder his work has been all over publications and international websites.

Anna Lee

Location: Oklahoma

Website: annaleemedia.com

Anna Lee is another touring music photographer. She started out as a music fan like all music photographers do, but she found opportunities to make her dream of shooting her favourite bands a reality. She’s been on tour with Smallpools and Walk the Moon. When she’s on tour, she does #ALMFanCam where she asks fans to give her disposable cameras and returns them with behind the scenes photos that no one else has!

She’s known as The Girl at the Rock Show and for good reason! She’s present in so many shows covering for PhilippineConcerts.com where she found her calling as a music photographer. I’ve admired her work ever since. I’m glad to be working with her!

Kara Bodegon

Website: www.karabodegon.com

When she’s not shooting metal shows, Kara immerses herself in the world of novel writing (also about music). She’s damn good at capturing moments in the mosh pit. She also does visual reviews–so unique, right?–of shows and albums.

Peter is a fellow music photographer and wordsmith at PhilippineConcerts.com. When not in the photo pit, he also takes photos of one of the country’s senators. He’s also a musician himself, but loves documenting fellow musicians on photographs.
