What do you stand for?

For British brand Dr. Martens, it’s about self-expression and individuality. Their campaign Stand For Something inspires people all over the globe to march to their own beat. In line with this global campaign, Dr. Martens Philippines brought the Stand For Something Tour to Manila.

I couldn’t believe that UK-based indie rock band, Circa Waves–who have performed at Reading and Leeds music festival (one of my dream festivals)–was going to play an intimate show in my hometown. Cue my excitement levels going off the roof. The best part: Dr. Martens was giving away tickets for free!

Last Saturday, the 12 Monkeys Music Hall and Pub was the stage for this intimate experience. And guess who was opening for Circa Waves? Up Dharma Down! It was going to be the second time in a month that I was going to see them live.

Aside from giving away free tickets, Dr. Martens Philippines also gave away freebies to lucky ticket holders!

For anyone who has always wanted to buy a pair of Dr. Martens, you now have a good reason to buy: a validated ticket comes with a 15% discount!

While waiting for the show to start, I hung around at the back with a bunch of friends talking about, y’know, life choices and our passions. What better place than at the Stand for Something Tour to talk about these things? Haha!

Up Dharma Down Stand for Something Tour12 Monkeys was packed! Up Dharma Down officially commenced the show at around 9:30. Loads of people including myself were excited to watch them play. They’re one of those bands you can’t get sick of hearing live. They sound amazing. It’s like no matter the venue, their sound is on-point.

Before Circa Waves came on stage, Dr. Martens awarded the person with the oldest pair a new one! Can you believe that the oldest pair was 14 years old? Now that’s loyalty.

When it was time for Circa Waves to take the stage, we were all beyond excited! They kicked off their set with Young Chasers–also the title of their first album.

I kept smiling like a fool the whole time. It was so surreal to have them playing an intimate show. I felt so lucky to just be there.

One of my favorite shots is of Colin, their drummer, making goofy faces at the camera. He kept putting on funny faces whenever I’d point the camera at him. I laugh every time I see this photo!

The crowd went bonkers after the last song, T-shirt Weather when Keiran held out his hand. I felt the push of the crowd, almost sucking me into their vortex. It happened so fast!

I can’t describe how happy I felt that night–attending a show and doing what I love. I’m sure fellow Circa Waves fans are as grateful as I am that Dr. Martens brought Circa Waves to Manila. I really hope they come back soon.

Dr. Martens, you are the bee’s knees. You make dreams come true!

I have lots of dreams: to publish best-selling novels, pursue music photography, go on music tour…the list goes on. This year, I’ve learned how important it is to do the things I love and make me happy. These are just some of the things I stand for: going after my dreams, being kind to people, and of course, sharing moments in music!

So, again I ask: what do you stand for?

More importantly, what are you going to do about it?
